FIRST DAY: ARRIVAL IQUITOS
A tour around the centre of the city to get to know the most significant
landmarks, some of which are from the rubber boom (subject to arrival
time)
Transfer to the lodge by boat down the Amazon. Floating houses.
Visit the ‘paiche’ farm – the largest fresh water
fish; during the transfer we will note various different communities
on the banks of the Amazon. Arriving to the lodge we will be welcomed
with a local drink and will find our rooms. Four nights in the Amazon
Botanical Lodge with full board. Take the ‘medicinal plant’
walk and get to know ‘uña de gato’, ‘sangre
de grado’ and ‘clavo huasca’ amongst others. Enjoy
spectacular views of the Amazon from a well placed viewpoint and
finish the day with a night walk to see tarantulas, insects. Night
at Botanical Lodge. (L, D)
SECOND DAY: CEIBA - LUPUNA
See the local birds in their natural habitat (by canoe from November
to July or walking from July to November). Take a walk deep into
the jungle to find the giant trees – including the voluptuous
and impressive Ceiba-Lupuna. Take in the local flora and fauna.
Visit to a small zoo to see the anacondas, some species of monkeys
among other animals. Take a night trip in a canoe around the lodge
and enjoy the sounds of the forest at night. Night at Botanical
Lodge.
Third day.
Visit to a small town at the edge of the river, to get to see the
way of life, the culture of bananas, yuccas, and papayas, among
others. Camping night at the jungle sleeping in tents. Night walk
to get to know some basic knowledge of how to survive in the jungle.
Morning Walk. Return to Botanical Lodge. (B, L, D)
FOURTH DAY - NAPO RIVER
After breakfast take a ride to the Napo River mouth. Visit the ‘Canal
Pinto’ town (November to June) to get to see the everyday
life of the community. Visit the ‘Orellana’ district,
named this in honour to the discoverer of the Amazon River, 1542.
Observation of the union of the Amazon (brown water) and the Napo
(black water) river, there, we will get to watch gray and pink dolphin.
Recreative fishing of sardines, catfish, and the legendary piranhas.
Lunch on board or at the lodge, is up to the passenger. Night at
Botanical Lodge. (B, L, D)
FIFTH DAY: TRANSFER OUT
Visit the native Yagua tribe and discover their methods of manufacturing
artisan products and their ability with the blow-pipe. This entire
trip will be under the supervision of a permanent guide and can
be personalised according to your needs. We can also arrange airport
transfers if necessary.
